CALPERNIA ADDAMS will be performing at this year’s Angels of Change Calendar Release and Runway Show on October 27!

Check out this exclusive interview from Frontiers Magazine – and find out what she will be performing and why she believes

it is important to be involved with transgender youth!

How did you become involved with Angels of Change?
I try to stay involved however I can in the local community, and especially with youth. Bamby is such a powerhouse of getting out there and making things happen. They asked if I would participate in the event, and I thought it would be my pleasure and privilege to participate.

What will you be performing at the event?
I’m going to try to bring a little bit of old Hollywood glamour—the sex kitten bombshell-type thing—but update it with some pop beats and bass lines. It’s going to be a very fun night. If anybody can participate or donate however they can, the rewards—just spending time with the kids and seeing the change that they can make—really make it all worth it. We’re all in this together, and an event like Angels of Change shows you why we’re important.

Did you have any support when you were growing up?
I grew up in the ’80s in Nashville, Tenn., and there was very little information. I had to go to the public library and read medical books if I had questions about my sexuality or gender. Much later, I met a community of gay people, drag performers and transsexual women who took me in after my family had cast me out. They mentored me and guided me through all that.
